Topshop MA1 Tall Bomber Jacket in Khaki

I’ve been interested in obtaining a bomber jacket for some time. They have been gaining popularity again the last few seasons, but one thing has always been holding me back – one that fitted just how I like. I’m quite a fan of clothing which has a more fitted look to it. If it’s too saggy or loose, I never feel comfortable wearing it. I’ve tried numerous bomber jackets from various brands, yet they always had a slightly oversized fit on me, then on the few occasions it had a good fit for my frame, the sleeves would be too long!

It was suggested to me to actually try on a women’s bomber jacket, in particular the ones from Topshop as they have quite a masculine look to them. This was quite a daunting prospect at first, trying on a girls jacket in store! Shrugging off this fear, I took a guess at my size being a UK 10 Tall in the Topshop MA1 Bomber Jacket. To my surprise, it actually fitted just how I wanted and was what I had been looking for all along in a bomber jacket. Nicely fitted in the shoulders, and the arm length was more or less perfect. The Tall version was ideal as the hem length reached the pockets of my jeans, while the standard MA1 Bomber was a little too feminine.

I teamed my new wardrobe addition with my PAIGE Transcend Croft Skinny Jeans. These are lovely and soft, easy to wear, rivalling the famous Diesel Jogg Jeans in the comfortable denim stakes. Finishing off the look with a pair of brown leather high tops from Topman really completed the style I was going for. Now that I have a men’s fashion blog, I’m interested to know, would you other guys be tempted to try a ladies jacket to get a closer fit? Buy the Topshop MA1 Bomber Jackets online here.

The jacket looks great on you (and I love the colour) – so it was clearly worth the experience of shopping outside your comfort zone. 🙂 It’s a very interesting question that you pose though. I’ve never even considered the idea of looking at women’s jacket for myself. In principle I have nothing against the idea if it was the best fit – though, with jackets, I prefer a less fitted look on myself so it probably wouldn’t apply. 🙂

I currently still own Forever 21 men’s skinny fit leather jacket, and the fit is very close to the photo you posted. But yes, I have crossed my mind of possibly getting a ‘men’s inspired’ women’s jacket. However, I have purchased a women’s knit black blazer that isn’t too short, I had to size up though. Despite the one giant pocket placed on the ‘other side’, the blazer on it’s own doesn’t look like a women’s design, so people don’t really notice. Clothing is starting to get so fitted, It’s really hard to tell if it’s women’s or men’s anymore. And the way you wear that jacket, nobody would know they’re women’s.

I think it’s different how a man presents himself wearing certain women’s items compared to women. This almost sounds like gender studies ha!

Thank you for your comment, it’s good to know other guys like to wear women’s clothing such as jackets too. It is very much a learning experience trying to get the right fits and styles to suit!

Hi Adam, absolutely love this post. I’ve been having the exact same problem as you. If you don’t mind me asking could I please have your height and weight in order to help me decide what size I should purchase.

Hi Jack, it’s a great jacket isn’t it? I’m about 5ft 8 inches to 5ft 9 inches, somewhere around there, and my weight is 10 stone 5 pounds, which meant I fit into the size UK 10 Tall very well. I hope that helps! Would you be able to purchase it through the link in my blog post? Topshop know I sent you then and it uses affiliates, so it would be a huge help! Which size do you reckon you will go for? Are you getting the green as well? Let me know if you need any more info!

I think maybe you should try a size 12 or 14 (Perhaps order a couple of sizes, it is free returns with Topshop too)
Larger sizes in the jacket should increase the length accordingly, but then my torso is fairly short! I did try a 12 as well, but it was slightly too long for me.
Also thanks for the purchase through the link 🙂

Hi Adam love this! I’ve had the same problem! If you don’t mind me asking how tall are you and how much do you weigh so I can sort my size out.
