Upgrade Your Designer Garden With The Correct Plants

Your garden is the entry point into your designer home, and ensuring it looks stylish is essential to creating an inviting environment for guests. One of the key elements of garden design is choosing the correct plants and grass and meticulously combining them together as one cohesive whole. In my latest article, I will offer help and tips on this subject! Carry on reading for more.

The desire for gardening seems to manifest as you get older (although there are youngsters with green fingers!), and it flourishes even more when people retire (having more free time only helps matters). Gardening is an undeniably relaxing activity that you can enjoy alone or with family (and all in the comfort of your own home).

However, it is not as straightforward as one might imagine—many people get it wrong, choosing the wrong plants (such as ones unsuitable for the outside due to poor weather or soil). Fortunately, in the following few points, I will share suggestions on helping you get the job done correctly, allowing you to create a fashionable-looking piece of nature just outside your front door.

Climate

You need to consider the importance of climate when choosing different plants and grass for your garden (especially if you live in cold or hot locations). Something tough and hardy like Sir Walter Buffalo grass is ideal as it can thrive in cold climates and even withstand high temperatures.

As the weather can be very unpredictable (especially in the UK!), plants that blossom within a wide range of temperatures will make the best bang for your buck. However, currently, individuals who live in traditionally very cold regions of the world are being hit with massive heat waves. In a role reversal, those who live in warmer areas are dealing with icy weather!

Because of this alone, it would be advisable to speak to an expert in gardening and horticulture to find out if certain plants are suitable for your country or your specific area. Otherwise, do your research and check online guides or forums for advice.

Types Of Soil

Another vital aspect is soil type—certain parts of the world are notorious for inhospitable soil for most plant life. As such, many plant forms find it difficult to grow and thrive. Instead, you need to select plants that can survive within the pH level of your own garden (which brings us neatly to the next step).

Testing Your Soil

Several soil testing kits are available to purchase if you are confident in your chemistry skills! However, you can pay for an expert to come and check your soil for you – so you can get a firm idea of what specific plants will grow in your garden.

Maintenance

If you are confident in your ability to care for plants (or have a lot of free time), consider investing in high-maintenance varieties. Alternatively, if time is limited, opt for plants that require very little help to grow.

You can check online for guides and lists on high/low-maintenance plants or even hire an expert gardener who can recommend different species that would be ideal for your personal needs.

Many garden lovers have now taken pen to paper (although in digital form!), and you can purchase many help guides and books (Amazon is rife with helpful content in this field).

Sunlight

The sun is the bringer of life, especially regarding flora and fauna. However, some plants are exceptionally delicate, and direct sunlight is too strong and will cause them to wither and die (if left too long). Some plants, however, prosper with heavy doses of the sun’s rays and will grow faster and stronger the more they are within its beams.

If your garden has shady areas or large patches of sunlight, you need to place your plants accordingly to have a healthy garden full of greenery, plants, and flowers. If you are lucky enough to have a large established tree in your garden, you can use its shade as a safety area for high-risk plants and flowers, all while maintaining the beautiful look of nature (without having to add any unsightly architectural obscenities to create ‘shade’).

Again, this knowledge is uncommon unless you live and breathe gardening – so head back online or even to your local library and start researching!

Watering

Keeping your plants watered and fed is essential for them to grow strong and healthy, but always make sure not to overwater them, as it will do much more harm than good (and is, unfortunately, one of the biggest risks to home plant life).

Once again, the knowledge of watering your plants comes with experience (and a little help from experts!), as certain plants require more/less h20 than others to prosper.

As with all of the sections in this article, the simplest method to maintaining a fantastic-looking and stylish garden is to hire a gardener regularly. They will keep on top of watering, feeding and looking after your plant life. Then, you can simply sit back and enjoy your own little piece of nature.

Aesthetics

In the final section, let’s discuss the finer details and how to consider aesthetics in your garden. You can hurriedly purchase several plants and haphazardly bundle them together, but they will likely appear mismatched and a million miles away from the designer look you had envisioned!

Visit large public gardens in your area, such as the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, for inspiration on where to place your plants and flowers (or even check online for visual guides on Pinterest or Instagram). You can also go old school and browse magazines and books filled with ideas and imagery that can help you design a fabulous gardenscape for everyone to enjoy.

It may seem daunting when you begin your journey to create a wonderful-looking garden, but after checking through my latest guide and following the tips and advice, you will soon be able to craft an impressive outdoor space filled with all sorts of unique and interesting plants.
