Outfit Inspiration From Autumnal TV Shows

Outfit Inspiration From Autumnal TV Shows

The autumn season is definitely a highlight of the year when the lush greens of nature transform into those beautiful red, yellow and orange golden hues. Fashions and outfits always seem to look much better during this period, too (although it could be down to my love of these tones).

Additionally, it is a great time to stay indoors and binge-watch one of your favourite shows. However, wouldn’t it be a great idea to combine the two? In my latest post, I aim to do just that—share several autumn-style TV shows, take inspiration from their clothing choices, and incorporate them into your day-to-day outfits. Carry on reading to find out more.

Thanks to the ever-increasing popularity of streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Disney +, there is no shortage of new shows and movies to watch. However, sometimes we just want to stick to what we know and love, something cosy and comfortable. As such, in the following section, I will select a handful of classic TV shows that feature stylish autumn looks that can easily be added to your own wardrobe.

Peaky Blinders

If you love to dress up extra-smart, then taking clothing inspiration from the Peaky Blinders could be perfect for this season. The show is set in post-World War 1 in Birmingham, England (where I am actually from!) and focuses on the local gangsters of the period, their struggle for power and wealth and a large amount of cool style! Think of very dapper suits crafted from quality tweeds, overcoats and the iconic flat caps worn by Thomas Shelby and his kin. The show undoubtedly provides a dark aesthetic that carries over into the autumn months, especially with the cooler and darker days.

Many brands have even based their entire collection on the different styles shown throughout the show’s many seasons, especially with the large variety of tweed fabrics available. You can easily boost the whole look with different accessories from that era – ties, tie bars, classic gold watches (consider a classic formal Swiss design)  and, of course, the classic flat cap which is the absolute finishing touch to this particular ensemble (such as the Irish hat style). Once you are done up to the 9s, you will feel like one of the gang as you walk those cobbled streets of an evening.

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

As we are getting very close to Halloween, why not get into the spirit of the occasion by watching ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’? This loving homage to the original 90s (as a reimagined origin story) features a fantastic selection of new and familiar characters, brought to life by an excellent cast (special mention goes to the late Chance Perdomo as Ambrose—who we actually met at a Bafta Nominees Party we attended).

The show is definitely much more ‘horror-based than the original, but it still includes the typical high-school teens’ drama—just bathed in demons, monsters, and gore!
The wardrobe for the show is fantastic, mixing formal styles with cosy knits, all based on classic autumn tones.

You can easily take a huge amount of inspiration for your seasonal outfits by opting for chunky knits (such as turtleneck jumpers and cardigans), along with formal-style coats thrown over the top like peacoats or even leathers. Footwear is your classic American high schooler—a high-top Converse style or sleek boots. For this season, complete your Sabrina-inspired styles with functional accessories, such as scarves and woolly hats.

The Haunting of Hill House

Taking the scary vibe one step further, The Haunting of Hill House could be considered the ultimate watch during fall. The show blends family drama with a ghostly atmosphere, which makes for a perfect candidate for binge-watching during a gloomy weekend in October. The script provides a haunting storyline that will have new viewers on the edge of their seats as each new episode unfolds, which is paired with absolutely fantastic dark and moody visuals.

If you are a fan of the show, it’s time to embrace that darker side of fashion and pay tribute. Use a mix of deep burgundy, forest green, and solid blacks as a colour palette for oversized jumpers, long coats, and black footwear.

Complete your spooky outfits with extra layers (such as a cardigan or long flowing scarf) and even a sleek leather jacket worn on top. These looks are classic choices, swiftly taking you from a crisp autumn day into a dark and mysterious evening.

Will you be taking inspiration from this selection of TV shows for your autumn outfit ideas? If so, which looks will you be rocking this season? Otherwise, please share your favourites you will watch again over the next few months. Please let me know in the comments below.
