Bells Of Steel Adjustable Competition Kettlebell

Building a home gym is something many men aspire to, but space constraints often make it a challenging prospect. Fortunately, there is a large number of compact fitness equipment options on the market, such as the innovative (and space-saving) adjustable kettlebell from Bells of Steel. Let’s find out more in my latest review.

The CEO and founder launched Bells of Steel in 2010, and watched it grow from strength to strength (pun intended). Initially based in Calgary, Canada, and expanding to the US in 2019. Now, they operate further afield across the globe (including the UK). Their online store offers a vast collection of products, including strength training equipment, racks, benches, and an assortment of cardio machines and free weights.

After browsing their site, my attention was caught by the adjustable kettlebell. My available space is limited, so this purchase could be the answer to my goblet squat and swing exercises needs. I already own a pair of adjustable dumbbells (also stocked by Bells of Steel), so this newest investment could complete my home kit set-up. So, let’s cut the chit-chat and get straight into the review.

Style & Design

In terms of appearance, there is not much that can be changed for a kettlebell (the old adage “if it ain’t broke…” rings true). Even though several variations have hit the market (to varying degrees of success), Bells of Steel have thankfully stuck with the classic round shape, which allows for easy movement during all types of exercises.

Even so, the brand has offered several colour options for the main body (black, blue, purple, and yellow) that complement the solid steel handle. In contrast, the individual weights are made from traditional iron. The main body of the kettle also has the ‘Bells of Steel’ logo engraved into the metal, which is a nice final touch!

Usability

Adjusting the weight amounts is a simple affair with the competition kettlebell kit. Inside the box, you will find the kettlebell, plate sets (if you chose the larger set, you will receive a second box of weights) and tools (Allen key and wrench).

The empty kettlebell is 12KG (including the handle and shell), and you are provided with a variety of incremental weight plates: 0.5KG, 1KG, 2KG, 3KG, and 4KG. This allows you to slowly increase the weight to match your fitness goals.

To swap out the plates, simply use the large Allen key to loosen the bolt at the base of the kettlebell. Once removed, half of the outer shell can be lifted off to reveal a large threaded rod with two bolts attached. You undo the lower bolt, slide on the required weight (firmly tightening with the included wrench), then reattach the shell and secure it in place with the bolt and Allen key combo. Once completed, you are ready to rock and roll and enjoy your new competition-level kettlebell.

During a workout, it only takes a couple of minutes to switch between different weight sizes (which can even be prepared in advance, either at the start of your session or during rest periods between exercises).

A kettlebell can be an essential addition to your bodybuilding session, allowing you to target a wide range of muscles. Popular exercises include clean, snatch, swing, squat and windmill.

Quality

This kettlebell is tough and hard as nails (as weight training equipment should be). You can safely swing it around, roll it across the floor, and even drop it (although I wouldn’t recommend that to save your floor/feet) without fear of damaging the bell. The internal structure is also high-quality, with each plate held securely in place. The brand has total faith in their kit, as they offer a lifetime guarantee (albeit with some limitations if the product has been misused).

Value For Money

In recent years, the cost of gym equipment has steadily increased (especially during the Covid-10 epidemic when many fitness lovers were restricted to home workouts). However, despite this, the cost of the products from Bells Of Steel is more than reasonable, which extends into their adjustable kettlebell range. The basic competition model (12-20.5 kg) sits at £169.99, whereas the complete set (12-32 kg) costs £259.99. If you opt for the cheaper set, not to worry, you can buy the additional plate set at a later date.

The overall space-saving element more than justifies the cost! Usually, you would have to purchase individual kettlebells, which not only take up space but also hit your bank balance hard! Not to mention, you get a wide range of weight levels with this kit, so you can make minor incremental adjustments as you progress on your bodybuilding journey.

Overall

If you want to elevate your home workout sessions, the Bells of Steel Adjustable Competition Kettlebell is something you need to add to your equipment collection. It allows you to incorporate unique exercises into your sessions, saves an extreme amount of space, is built to last and will save you literally thousands of pounds on individual bell sizes (the lifetime warranty is just the icing on the cake). So what are you waiting for? Order yours today and enjoy the massive benefits towards your fitness goals!
