Essential Face Care Tips For Men
The modern man always wants to look his best, and that’s not just limited to clothing and accessories (although they are a huge factor). It is also important to look after your face—after all, it is the very first thing others see. In my latest lifestyle article, I will suggest a number of essential tips on face care, ensuring you look and feel on top of the world.
Grooming and skin care are now widely acceptable for guys (even though, for years, they were largely frowned upon!), and pretty much all of the big brands offer products for men (even if they started solely in the ladies’ market). However, hundreds of brands now cater only to men’s skin, hair, and beards, making guys look their best all year round.
In this mini-feature, I suggest several points all guys should focus on to look great and feel good, using a few simple steps each day.
Face Care
Your face is arguably the most important part of your outfit, so it is vital to look after your skin, ensuring it looks soft, supple, and young-looking (keeping the sands of time at bay!). Many men often overlook facial grooming, even though it is a simple (and short) process that takes only a few minutes to complete each day.
Start with a simple face wash to remove excess dirt, followed by an exfoliator to remove stubborn, dead skin cells and impurities. Complete the procedure with a moisturiser to hydrate the skin, lock in moisture, and protect it from environmental elements.
Looking After Your Beard
If you have a beard, it is vital to keep it under control with regular maintenance (rather than leave it to its own devices and run wild across your face!).
Begin by washing your beard with a suitable shampoo, gently dry it with a soft towel, and then apply oil or balm to moisturise and condition the hair. Finally, use a dedicated beard comb to distribute the oil/balm through your beard to help detangle and style it.
However, some guys find it challenging to grow a beard effectively (even if they would love to rock a huge beast of a beard!). In this case, you could incorporate beard oil for growth into your grooming regime. It would add needed nutrients to your hair follicles, helping you grow a fuller and thicker beard.
Stray Hair Trimming
Finally, it is crucial to remove and trim any unwanted stray hairs from your face. These undesirable hairs typically sprout from your nose, ears, and even random areas of your face (often the cheeks!).
You can either pluck the odd random hair (although it may grow back faster and stronger!), use a classic razor, or invest in a small trimmer (usually marketed for nose/ear hair).
I even get extra long random hairs protruding amongst my eyebrow hairs (which I remove with tweezers).
More often than not, these stray hairs appear more and more as you get older, so it is essential to implement a plan of action in advance so it becomes a natural everyday process.
Summary
If your face looks clean, fresh, and groomed, it is a great starting point for looking good and boosting your confidence, especially when teamed up with a well-styled hairstyle and a fantastic outfit.
Grab a collection of quality grooming products (face wash, exfoliator, moisturiser) and beard care products (wash, cream, or oil) and keep those random hairs in check. Your cleansing ritual will be off to an excellent start, expanding further as you see the results of your self-care journey.
