How To Stay Focused During Cardio Running
One of the most basic ways to stay fit is to run. However, this exercise can often be a tedious process, and boredom can set in. In my latest article, I look at a number of ways you can keep yourself focused during your cardio sessions.
If you are a fitness fanatic, cardio is likely on your weekly to-do list, with running being one of the principal options available. However (and I’m also talking from personal experience!), it can get particularly boring, especially if you opt for using a running machine—staring at the same empty space for a considerable amount of time. This is why, in my latest post, I will suggest several ways to keep you entertained even during those long runs!
Listen To Music
Listening to your favourite beats during your cardio is nothing new, and many gym-goers can be seen wearing headphones to keep themselves focused. It is a fantastic way to keep you motivated, and more often than not, you will end up running to the beat (especially if it is a fast-based dance or pop song). You could even create a specific personalised track list just for your cardio exercises – in fact, when piecing together the perfect compilation, it will build up the excitement of listening to your creation and give you the boost needed to hit the track.
Watch a Movie / TV show
If you own a home running machine, rather than stare blankly at the wall (which I used to do!), you could install a flat-screen TV in front of your equipment to keep you entertained when jogging. Some modern running machines even have a section to slot your tablet/iPad into so you can stream your latest shows right in front of you! (then you can still connect your headphones to drown out the sound from anyone else in your home). If you plan to watch a long-running TV series, you could plan to watch an episode during each run – again, ensuring you look forward to your next cardio session, helping you with your fitness goals.
Run Outside
Finally, the very best way to keep boredom at bay is to run outside – from the bustling city streets where you can witness all manner of people, shops and architecture to the local countryside area such as parks, forests or farming areas to give you visual stimulation. This tactic alone can keep everything fresh, particularly if you mix up your route.
One thing to remember is that outside running can actually be more harmful to your feet due to the different floor types you will traverse. If you already suffer from problematic feet, it would be wise to invest in various items to combat damage when running, such as ankle compression sleeve (to protect your bones from heavy impact) and even quality sneakers that include cushioning (such as the classic Nike Air Max) for improved comfort during intense cardio runs.
Summary
Running is an excellent way to keep fit and burn calories, but it can be a rather dull experience. These hints and tips will help alleviate the tedium somewhat so you can enjoy your cardio sessions and focus on your workout goals. Just remember to protect your feet from undue stress, especially if you suffer from problematic feet.
