Styling A Quarter Zip Jumper With Chelsea Boots By Herring Shoes

One of the most iconic clothing combinations for men is a quality knit with a pair of Chelsea Boots. However, you can take this look one step further by upgrading to a quarter zip jumper. In my latest fashion post, I pair both of these stylish pieces together from Herring Shoes. Click to find out more!

Regular readers will have seen that I am a huge fan of Chelsea Boots (one of my ultimate go-to pairs), and I can attest that Herring Shoes offer a fantastic range of models (check my review of one of the suede styles here).

The Herring Ipswich II are a fantastic pair of Chelsea boots (as the name suggests, these are the follow-up to the hugely successful earlier model). They are available in a gorgeous waxy brown leather, as seen here (along with solid black), with a complementary darker gusset and a Goodyear Welted sole (to ensure quality construction, long life, and full repairability when necessary).

Unboxing the boots will reveal a glorious shine to the leather, which is even more apparent outside when the sun catches its brilliant silhouette. The leg opening is suitably narrow, so you can easily wear relaxed, slim and skinny fits alike. As such, I decided to pair one of their latest leather styles with one of their top-selling jumpers.

The Herring Foxton Zip Jumper (which is a collaboration with Peregrine) is a beautiful piece which has been lovingly crafted using a high-quality merino wool (which also boasts flame-resistant qualities). The colour is a gorgeous oatmeal with a sprinkling of dark speckles, creating a standout design. The sweater also features shoulder detailing for a workwear-like frame.

The quarter-length jumper design (often also known as the 1/4 zip or half-zip) has always been an eye-catching number, blending traditional knitwear with a sporty zip-up funnel neck that lowers to the middle of the chest.

Folding down the funnel neck reveals a tan-orange fabric, a lovely contrast against the beige body. There is minimal branding (in keeping with the Peregrine aesthetic), with only a simple logo at the hem. The fit is slightly oversized, which is ideal for the autumn/winter season. You can easily slip it over a t-shirt or a slim knit when the chills start to hit hard.

Outfit

The oatmeal of the sweater paired wonderfully with the waxy brown leather finish of the Chelsea boot, creating a contrast between light and dark (albeit within the same palette). I combined these two excellent clothing pieces from Herring with a pair of slightly relaxed tapered jeans from Levi’s in a distressed stonewash colour.

I added a handful of accessories to the ensemble – a black-and-silver cuff, several rings (in the same tones), and a pair of Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses (my absolute favourite).

The completed ensemble will carry you through the colder seasons of the year, keeping you warm yet stylish, and free-flowing for ease of movement. It suggests a classic, workwear vibe but also something suitable for a casual evening out, or even an impromptu shopping trip with your partner (or even for a lone browse!).

Location

I headed to the outskirts of Birmingham, making good use of older architecture (even though it was only a stone’s throw from the taller office blocks that frequent the city). The brown and grey tones of the brickwork are the ideal complement to my winter ensemble. However, the weather was particularly inhospitable during the shoot! (I endured and still managed to capture a handful of shots).

Summary

Combining a chunky zip jumper and Chelsea boots is a classic look that will never go out of style (while also keeping you nicely wrapped up and protected against the gloomy winter rain and wind).
