I have regularly highlighted the quality on offer by the Herring Shoe brand (their collection of footwear, clothing and accessories is filled with outstanding pieces), so I am always more than happy to test out one of their many classic pairs.
For this article, I will examine the Herring Bridges Waxy-Calf Boots in dark brown (I have previously worn the alternative black design on my social pages, along with an early 2025 blog gift guide). I was already a huge fan, so I can’t wait to share my thoughts in this in-depth review.
Style & Design
The Bridges boots have been created with work-wear in mind; they feature a rugged silhouette with a rounded (yet shapely) toe cap. A lace-up fastening adds to the heavy-duty vibe. Fortunately, Herring has included a side-zip (on the inner leg side), which allows you to slip the boots on quickly – no more tediously tying the laces (Especially when you are in a big rush!).
The leather boasts a waxy finish, which adds to the rugged appearance – the icing on the cake is the darker patina elements around the toe and heel (providing a level of distressing which adds to the overall charm).
Wearability & Comfort
These tough-looking boots are the perfect complement for casual attire – think relaxed denim jeans (or even skinny fits) paired with a casual jumper or thick plaid shirt. For outerwear, throw on a Sherpa jacket, a peacoat, or even a gilet (for those slightly warmer days).
However, even during the summer, you can still rock the Bridges lace-ups – grab a lightweight-knit or a cotton button-up with a distressed denim jacket (or even a suede or leather number). For the legs, consider a pair of slim-fit chinos or even jeans with a thinner denim content.
Even though the Bridges have been designed with the work-wear aesthetic in mind, that doesn’t mean they have to be uncomfortable on the feet! Many brands would be happy to supply boots which provide a painful experience (and then state ‘they need to be broken in’ in advance).
Herring avoids this pitfall – each shoe, boot and trainer in their collection is always a delight for your feet, straight out of the box, and these are no different. Even after a long trek around the city, there was no pain, irritation, discomfort or any rubs, rips or broken skin to report.
Packaging
The Herring packaging has always hit a home run, and the Bridges boots box is no different. A gorgeous deep blue colour with a textured material is topped off with a gold-foil print displaying the logo and name on the lid. The construction is sturdy, holding firm even when stacked amongst your growing collection of footwear.
Diving inside the box, you will find each boot individually protected by a dedicated dust bag (in complementary blue), along with leather cream in dark brown to match the leather (to keep them polished, shiny and new). In short, you couldn’t ask for a better presentation (even designer brands often fall short in this department).
Value For Money
Herring Shoes offers a wide selection of shoes and boots, all at varying price points. The Bridges model sits comfortably in the mid-range, yet the quality is super high. Even with frequent wear, these lace-ups will comfortably last for many years to come (paying for themselves tenfold).

The Bridges lace-up boots are a top-level choice for the discerning fashion lover, thanks to an excellent design, premium construction, and a more-than-reasonable price point!
