Barrington Single Watch Winder Review

Barrington Single Watch Winder Review

If you are the proud owner of an automatic watch, you can fully understand the importance of keeping it charged to maintain accurate time. However, it can often be inconvenient to wear the same watch regularly (preserving the charge). Fortunately, Barrington Watch Winders is on hand to help with their selection of rotating devices. I will check out one of these premium models in my latest review.

I have owned a couple of automatic watches (Omega & Rado), and I know the pain of realising your beloved timepiece has been left untouched for several days, and the mechanism has come to a halt. This then causes the issue of resetting the time and date (if it has been left for weeks, it often means a long process of turning through all the hours and days to reach the specific digits!).

Some years ago, I treated Dad (check out Dad’s life story) to his first automatic watch for his 75th Birthday—a Tag Heuer. It is from the Formula One collection and features a grey dial, stainless steel finish, and a 43mm case size.

Due to Dad working a lot with his hands throughout his career (as a builder), he has since suffered from carpal tunnel syndrome and finds operating smaller items troublesome. As such, keeping his watch permanently charged is ideal (so he doesn’t have to keep winding regularly or, worse, reset the time and date) – this is where the benefits of a watch winder come into play.

I decided to purchase the watch winder (as seen in this review), so my Dad could store his Tag when it was not in use. However, I decided to share both of our thoughts on the device for my readers, as they are incredible items for a variety of reasons.

They come under many names (depending on the brand) that include –

  • Watch Winder
  • Watch Spinner
  • Watch Rocker
  • Watch Rotator
  • Watch Turner
  • Automatic Watch Shaker
  • Watch Winder Box
  • And more!

Watch winders are essential pieces of kit, whether you don’t like to wear your beloved Swiss timepiece every day, suffer from issues with your hands and wrists (like my Dad), or have an extensive collection of mechanical watches that need to be kept charged at all times (so you can simply grab your desired model when necessary).

Brand History

The Barrington Watch Winders business started in 2009 (by founder Sean O’Farrell – investor and director from Jura Watches) and launched its first winder in 2010 (after a thorough and vigorous design and testing process by Conka Design and Hoffi). The response was fantastic! Customers from both Jura and other retailers began placing orders almost immediately.

Since its inception, the brand has added numerous additional models to its collection, including a double, quad, six, nine, and 12-watch winder, all in a number of different colour and style options (including limited edition designs).

The brand sells globally, with many customers from the UK, the US, the EU, and the rest of the world.

Style & Design

The Barrington watch winder is all about modern design, offering sharp, sleek lines. It is rectangular in shape, with the entry point for the watch at the front within a black enclosure. The main body of the box is bathed in a bold colour (I chose white to complement Dad’s grey-faced Formula 1 Tag Heuer).

The company has opted for minimal branding to keep the modern vibe, with a single logo along each side.

The single winders are available in the following colours –

  • Glacier White (as shown here)
  • Midnight Blue
  • Racing Green
  • Burnt Amber
  • Crimson Red
  • Electric Yellow
  • Shadow Black

And special editions – Santos Rosewood, American Walnut (unvarnished) and Grey Koto.

Functionality

The single-watch winder is the brand’s flagship model, offering a variety of features for the horological enthusiast. It is constructed using an ultra-quiet Japanese motor (ideal if it is sitting on your bedside table) and provides the option of rotating clockwise, counterclockwise, or alternately.

You can adjust the number of turns your watch performs each day from 650 to 750, 850 to 1,000 or 1,950, depending on your preference and watch model.

Additionally, it comes with two different cushions – standard or flex (depending on the circumference of the strap/bracelet). The winder can also be powered via an AC mains adaptor or two AA batteries (ideal if you want to take it with you on your travels).

Packaging

The watch winder arrives safely packed in a sturdy box and surrounded with a generous amount of soft wrap for extra protection from any damage. Each external accessory (plugs and cables) is also securely packaged for transportation.

Value For Money

The time saved by using a watch winder is immeasurable in cost, especially if you want to grab your timepiece and head out the door. Likewise, if you find operating an automatic watch with small, intricate parts challenging (on a regular basis), it could be considered a priceless addition to your accessories collection.

The single watch winders are available for a very reasonable price point of £225, which is very competitive in this market (especially considering the quality and options provided by the Barrington brand).

Summary

If you are looking for a great way to keep your automatic charged and running with accurate time, investing in a quality watch winder from Barrington could be the answer. These premium devices offer a striking visual effect and excellent features and are available at a very competitive price. Check out their entire collection today; you will not be disappointed.
