Autumn Outfit Ideas For A Day In The City
The autumn season arguably offers the most versatile clothing choices for a stylish man about town. The blend of browns, greys, and blacks creates a fantastic visual effect against the backdrop of high-flying architecture. In my latest article, I will share a couple of eye-catching looks that will ensure you will tick those fashionable boxes during a visit to the city. Carry on reading to find out more.
Even though I am a huge fan of summer (you cannot beat lounging by the poolside in a pair of shorts and a linen shirt), the autumn season is when fashion really shines. You can finally reach into your wardrobe for chunky knits, denim, wool jackets, and a variety of different coat designs (and pack away your beachwear for another year). The Very Collection is awash with a vast array of deep colours and neutral hues, which all pair together, allowing you to create some truly outstanding outfits!
In the following style post, I will channel my love of autumn to create a couple of looks that capture the best elements of the season, which are also easy to wear for an impromptu trip to the city. You cannot beat a slow jaunt around town, endlessly walking through cobbled streets, popping into your favourite high-street stores (checking out the latest trends), and enjoying a pit stop at the local coffee house, warming up your palms with a hot latte.
So without further ado, let’s dive right in and check out my outfit ideas –
Shacket & Relaxed Denim Ensemble
First up, we have my casual look, which has taken advantage of a cooler colour palette (which complemented the muted walls in my shots). I selected a stylish piece of outerwear from the latest offering of men’s shackets, which straddles the line between a jacket and a shirt (hence the name). It is constructed from a premium faux wool fabric in gorgeous winter white, featuring a subtle speckled finish.
I paired this slightly oversized number with a pale, light blue textured jumper and relaxed, stone-wash denim, which provided an incredible contrast against the clean white shacket. I’m starting to fall in love with looser fits (particularly denim), whereas for many years, I could only ever be seen in skinny fits. I completed the outfit with a pair of bright white high-top sneakers (to continue the minimalist aesthetic), silver-rimmed sunglasses, and a variety of rings.
This ensemble is sleek and casual, allowing you to simply enjoy a city stroll without overly worrying about anything too tight and fitted, ideal for when the temperature dips but before the winter chill is in full swing.
Padded Jacket & Oversized Cords Outfit
Next up, I opted for polar opposite colours of deep browns and solid black (which are my typical tones for autumn). I grabbed a feather and down padded jacket in brown (which is heat-sealed to combat the temperature drop), in a slightly larger fit for a retro vibe. I slung this jacket over a quarter-zip beige jumper, which was then paired with a pair of relaxed-fit cord trousers in deep black (I hadn’t worn cord in years; it seems I was missing out!). I topped off the outfit with white sneakers, brown-toned aviators and a selection of jewellery items.
This getup definitely had a late-90s throwback vibe going on (harking back to the UK indie band revolution), with oversized fits, padded outerwear and the ever-essential shades for that touch of cool (no matter the weather).
Location
For the shoot, I headed to the urban streets of Birmingham, England, taking advantage of the clean, high-rise buildings as the perfect backdrop for my autumn-inspired wardrobe selections. I chose a grey-walled building and pathway to enhance the white and blue tones of the shacket ensemble.
For the padded jacket look, I headed deeper into the city, where the warm-toned architecture complemented my clothing pieces perfectly, with a focus on brown and beige hues.
Final Thoughts
The autumn season always brings the best collections to the table (and this shows no sign of changing!). It provides a wide range of fantastic choices (whether at your favourite online store or a guilty-pleasure bricks-and-mortar stockist).
Which of these styles is your favourite? Do you prefer the shacket and denim combo, or does the padded jacket and cord trousers turn your head? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below.
