How To Design A Masculine Bedroom

For a modern man, a masculine bedroom can be a crucial element in the home, and its style will depend on personal taste and individual preferences. In my latest home and lifestyle article, I will offer a handful of general tips to help you build your dream bedroom, whether you prefer a maximalist aesthetic or the sleek lines of a minimalist room. Carry on reading to find out more.

To update your bedroom decor for a serious presence in 2025, follow the tips in the following guide, which will lead you in the right direction.

Choose A Strong Colour Palette

The once-popular cool whites and greys that have long dominated UK bedroom interiors have now begun to feel sterile and uninspiring. They have been replaced with deep, rich hues of burnt sienna, olive green and dark burgundy (all of which are gaining traction in the world of home decor). They can add warmth while also creating an elegant appearance, making them the perfect choice for a masculine bedroom.

Deep rust hues feel undeniably earthy and grounded, complementing dark brown furniture and bed frames. In contrast, olive green can provide an organic touch (especially when paired with matte black or even walnut wood).

A burgundy hue (with its deep, wine-red tone) can deliver a sense of luxury that is understated without feeling overly polished.

Embrace Textured Materials & Panelled Walls

In the UK interior design sector, layering raw and tactile materials is currently a major trend (particularly in men’s bedrooms, in which subtle choices are key).

For example, natural wood (whether via panelling or entire furniture pieces) can bring dimension to flat surfaces and also improve the insulation and acoustic quality, which then makes the room much quieter. Consider investing in leather chairs or punched benches, which offer long-term durability and a classic, gentleman’s club or quiet luxury aesthetic vibe.

It is worth opting for a woollen throw (such as a solid-coloured or subtle patterned design) that can help to preserve vintage or expensive furniture pieces. As an optional extra, consider incorporating concrete or stone elements into a bedside table for a tough and rugged edge.

Incorporate Practical & Stylish Storage

In many homes, bedrooms often lack sufficient vertical storage space. British bedrooms, for instance, tend to be on the smaller side; therefore, clever solutions can be a game-changer. For example, built-in shelving around the headboard or within alcoves can provide both display and storage areas, which can be ideal for books, Blu-Rays or even ornaments (without impacting your valuable floor space).

If you are looking for additional wardrobe space, consider adding hooks to the back of doors or unused walls so you can hang outfits (to protect your beloved clothes from unwanted wrinkles) while also keeping everything tidy and accessible.

Select storage options that complement the room’s aesthetic (such as a matte black wool hook or cabinetry in deep tones).

Additionally, under-bed drawers or lift-up bed bases are effective options that can help you hide bulkier items (such as spare bedding) without sacrificing your drawer space.

Anchor The Room Around A Statement Bed

The overall centrepiece in your bedroom should be a bold king-size bed that sets the tone while also providing a comfortable place to lay your head at the end of a busy day. Choose a bed frame with precedence, such as a high leather headboard, which will complement the other textures found in chairs or other accessories around the room, including your leather goods (bags, wallet, or even a laptop case).

Finally, when you want to dress the bed, begin with crisp white base sheets followed by a textured duvet in tones which complement the walls. For lighting, install a low-hanging pendant light over side tables or wall-mounted scones with warm bulbs. This addition can boost the overall cocoon-like atmosphere in your room, which will elevate your bedroom sanctuary (the only downside is that you will find it difficult to leave each morning!).
