Things You Should Know About Streaming TV Shows On Holiday

Holidays are a much-welcome break from the everyday stresses and routines of life. However, many of us are invested in the latest trending shows and don’t want to miss the latest episodes when we’re away, so we need to take them with us. But is it just that easy? Not always. In my latest article, I will share a few points to consider!

Data Charges And Wi-Fi Usage

If you plan to stream from anywhere without a strong Wi-Fi connection (such as the beach or by the pool), it is essential that you keep an eye on your data usage. Many phone contracts now include limited data usage overseas as standard or even as an optional perk. Nevertheless, it is always worth double-checking your contract to ensure you are not hit with big roaming charges with every episode you watch.

If there is local Wi-Fi available, everything is much easier. For example, if your accommodation has unlimited internet, you should be able to stream for free. It can be a good idea to bring a Chromecast or an Amazon Fire TV Stick, which you can plug directly into your hotel TV for a home-like experience.

It is vital that you are careful with public Wi-Fi networks, as they can put your data, devices, and information at risk (so always choose password-protected networks).

Additionally, you could even download a few episodes onto your phone or tablet before you leave home, anticipating times when you do not have access to data or Wi-Fi – then you will always have something to watch on the plane, or even just as a handy backup.

Devices And Battery Life

Smashing through episode after episode can quickly drain your battery—fortunately, with a few tricks, you can easily maximise your battery life. Activating low-power mode or disabling apps in the background helps to avoid unnecessarily losing valuable charge. Keep your brightness setting in check, too (it uses a lot of power), though you may need full brightness in the sun to see your screen.

Investing in a reliable portable battery pack is an excellent idea that gives you the freedom to charge your device even if there are no power sockets nearby. The bigger the pack, the more charge it will hold—but that also means added weight. Therefore, it can depend on what you can fit into your luggage.

Location Restrictions

Many streaming platforms and apps block users from other locations. For example, BBC iPlayer doesn’t allow viewers from outside of the UK. Some platforms also restrict certain content in different regions, so you may not be able to watch your favourite shows when you are on vacation.

You can tackle this problem by using a virtual private network. Installing this program on your device allows you to access geo-restricted content, even if you are not in your home country. Additionally, you will get a better viewing experience by avoiding bandwidth throttling, which many hotels are guilty of!

Take Your Favourites With You On Holiday

Being away from home doesn’t mean you have to miss out on your comfort TV shows. Use the correct devices, download episodes in advance, and ensure you have a data roaming plan or a VPN to access geo-restricted content, and you will be able to experience the latest storylines without interruption. However, do not neglect your time away and enjoy your holiday too! You deserve it!
