Healthy Habits That Make A Big Difference On Holiday

Healthy Habits That Make A Big Difference On Holiday

For many guys, one primary objective will be to achieve that summer body in time for a beach-style holiday. However, the required dedication doesn’t simply pause from July to August. You must focus on an overall positive lifestyle, culminating in smaller habits that combine to make a significant difference. In my latest article, I will explore how you can maintain a healthy and holistic mindset even when enjoying the delights of your poolside vacation.

Move More, Feel Better

Always pack suitable footwear (especially trainers or sneakers that combine as ‘walking shoes’). It may be surprising to discover what increasing your daily steps can do. Do you know that 11 minutes of daily walking can extend the average lifespan? Moving directly correlates to feeling better (not just a question of health).

Incorporating physical activity into your daily activities is an excellent method of increasing your dopamine levels. Always aim to stay active when abroad, as it is an essential healthy habit.

Engage In Active Leisure

Active leisure is fun but also ensures you burn off those unwanted extra calories! Examples include swimming, paddle boarding, and volleyball, which are all fun additions to beach holidays. Every stroke and serve will create fun memories but also elevate your health.

When participating in active leisure, you will quickly forget that you are technically exercising, as you are enjoying yourself too much (especially with family, friends, and loved ones) to notice! Furthermore, it has become a very popular type of leisure trip (especially for fitness lovers), with a noticeable increase in swimming holidays amongst UK tourists (which goes hand in hand with beach destinations).

Stay Hydrated, Stay Energised

It is common knowledge for healthy guys to understand the importance of hydration. Even when abroad, drinking water regularly is a healthy habit that is easy to achieve (although depending on the location, it is wise to stick to pre-packaged bottled water!).

Experts recommend that you aim for two litres a day, so pack a refillable water bottle (ideally with an inbuilt filter) so you can drink on the go.

Consuming sufficient levels of water can prevent heat stroke, regulate temperature, aid digestion, and even keep your skin clear and fresh. Nonetheless, always be mindful of excessive alcohol consumption (even if you are on your hols!), as a heavy hangover can limit your ability to stay energised.

Protect Yourself From The Sun

You may be eager to achieve a golden tan, but it can be horrific for your health! UV increases the risks of dangerous conditions such as skin cancer, not to mention the risk of a short-term gamble of getting burned! (After all, you don’t want to be lobster-red when heading to the local sea-view restaurant).

It is ideal to stay in the shade between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., realistically apply SPF 30 at an absolute minimum, and always be conscious of reapplying.

Prepare For Your Destination

Frequent travel can expand your knowledge and understanding of the world while also replenishing you mentally and physically. On the flip side, it can also leave you with unwanted souvenirs (and I’m not talking about teeth-shattering sticks of rock!). Dengue fever, hepatitis A, and typhoid are just a handful of diseases that are active risks across much of the world.

Defend yourself by checking in for an NHS health risk assessment in advance (at least eight weeks before your departure). You may discover that you need to invest in necessary protective vaccinations (just to be safe!).

When you take the right steps, your upcoming holiday will undoubtedly benefit your mind, body, and soul. Just keep your fitness and health goals in mind, even during the glorious summer season.

Thanks for reading my latest article. I would love to hear how you manage your fitness plans during the holiday season.
