Why Scotland Is The Ultimate Destination For A Unique Getaway
Many of us will head overseas when we want to escape the hustle and bustle of life. However, we can easily find fabulous destinations closer to home, such as Scotland, which offers beauty, culture, and adventure. In my latest article, I will share excellent reasons (including some personal experiences) why you should head to Scotland for your next holiday. Carry on reading for more.
If you live in the UK (particularly England), you will often be told (either by acquaintances or even the media) that Scotland is constantly bombarded with poor weather and is dreadfully cold. However, after spending a considerable amount of time there (with my partner Eve), I have come to the conclusion that this is a falsehood.
The sun frequently shines brightly, covering the stunning scenery with a lovely glow. Furthermore, if you booked a Scottish holiday during the summer, you will enjoy a high temperature and you may even catch a tan (I have bronzed on several occasions!).
In the next few points, I will share some of the fantastic reasons to visit the beauty of Scotland.
The Beauty Of Scotland’s Beaches
Many people will baulk at the idea that Scotland will have great beaches (especially thanks to that bad weather, right?). On the contrary, it is home to many beautiful beaches scattered along the coasts. For example, I have visited Troon Beach on multiple occasions (we have used it as a backdrop for photoshoots on numerous occasions), and during the summer, it can be absolutely scorching! It offers blinding sunshine, with warm water lapping at your feet as you casually walk along the sand close to the ocean.
Other top beaches in Scotland include –
- Luskentyre Sands (Isle of Harris)
- Sandwood Bay
- Cruden
- Laig Bay (Isle of Eigg)
- St Ninians Bay (Shetland)
The Eye-catching Cities And Villages Of Scotland
Scotland is also home to a vast collection of different cities that offer striking visuals or villages with a backdrop of untouched greenery and nature.
Edinburgh undoubtedly sits high on the list with its eye-catching architecture, which blends a number of different styles, including medieval, Georgian, gothic, neo-classical, and Victorian, to name but a few. If you are a camera lover, it should definitely be on your to-do list so you can capture some amazing shots!
Alternatively, if you are looking for a more modern city (which still is no stranger to lovely-looking architecture), then head to Glasgow. This heaving city is home to a wide variety of restaurants, galleries, museums, and designer stores (if you want to go on a shopping spree!).
Additional Top Scotland Cities –
- Aberdeen
- Dundee
- Inverness
- Paisley
- Dumfries
If you want something a little calmer, there are plenty of quaint villages spread across Scotland – boasting lush visuals (be it farmland or entire forests) along with home-grown shops and places to eat good food. If you are feeling adventurous, you could head across the sea on a ferry to a number of different islands (such as the Isle Of Arran) for something different.
Additional Scotland Villages –
- Shieldaig
- Braemar
- Gardenstown
- Ballater
- Tobermory
The Delights Of Scottish Cuisine
Finally, there are a vast number of different cuisines in Scotland that can be uncovered. You can experience their savoury food choices—such as haggis (ignore the bad press; it’s actually delicious!), neeps and tatties, Cullen Skink, Black Pudding, and Scotch pies. Alternatively, if you want to enjoy a tasty after-dinner treat, there are plenty of options, including shortbread, Scottish tablet, Cranachan, or Dundee cake.
There are more than enough choices to keep food lovers happy as soon as they step over the border into Scotland!
Summary
If you want to head to somewhere within the UK for your next vacation, then definitely consider Scotland – you will be inundated with a vast wealth of different options from beautiful beach holidays, city breaks or peaceful trips to one of the many quiet farm towns. Furthermore, the Scottish people are all incredibly friendly (which can be a refreshing change!) – you may even find yourself enjoying (or even partaking) in bagpipe music! So what are you waiting for? Next stop, Scotland!
