Pompeak Gentlemen’s Automatic Watch Review
As we begin the 2nd half of what is undoubtedly an unforgettable year (to say the least), it is time for another review on my men’s fashion blog – The Pompeak Gentleman’s Automatic Watch – Keep reading to find out more!
Pompeak started life when two brothers envisioned a watch design which they themselves wanted to see brought to life and available to wear on their wrists. With nothing like it on the market, they took action and after months of heading back to the drawing board with different designs and updates they finally created something they were happy with and launched a successful Kickstarter campaign. The brand has gone from strength to strength, culminating in the launch an automatic watch. My review features one of the flagship mechanical watches from this very collection.
Design & Shape
The watch itself is nothing short of spectacular to look at with its timeless approach to design. The timepiece features a guilloche face which in itself is something of a treat for the eyes – the effect is crafted using mechanical engraving and engine turning, which gives the pattern its unique appearance.
The watch comes with a choice of a black or navy face (I chose the latter) and Pompeak decided to forgo typical hourly numbers in favour of the much sleeker indice markers. Additionally, there is a hole in the face, so the inner workings of the automatic movement are visible from the front (a personal love of mine when it comes to watches, I find the constant movement fascinating to view). The bezel is stainless steel and fortunately has been made with simplicity in mind. The last touch of design on the face falls onto the branded name, positioned neatly between the 2 and 10-hour positions (which is more often the case with almost every other brand, premium or otherwise).
When it comes to the strap, there are a few options available, for the purpose of the review I picked out the full-grain black leather strap (which complements almost every outfit). There are multiple different options available, including full-grain brown leather, mock croc (in black and brown) or a stainless steel bracelet which all feature a rather distinctive butterfly deployant clasp.
Wearability & Comfort
As the watch itself adheres to the smart casual style of accessories, its wearability almost holds no bounds in what outfit or event you can pair it with – at the office combined with a shirt and tie or casual with a sweater and jeans. I would probably recommend you choose something else if you wanted to wear a T-shirt and shorts beach look! (let’s not even mention the oddly popular sports looks doing the rounds at the moment). Once safely on your wrist, there is very little to mention apart from that it is a joy to wear with no discomfort to report, even after a full day.
Construction & Mechanism
The watch boasts an impressive tech spec when it comes to the internal workings, featuring the world-renowned Miyota 82S5 Japanese automatic movement which is considered the very best automatic movement outside of Switzerland. Thanks to the open back and cut out front, you can easily spy and admire how the watch moves throughout the day.
Fabricated using 316L stainless steel, the case of the watch can sustain everyday use and any bumps and knocks along the way. The glass is made of sapphire crystal, protecting against damage and scratches, along with easy visibility for the eyes to see the dial. Next up Pompeak has included Blue BGW9 Swiss Super-LumiNova on the hands and markers. Finally, the timepiece can be submerged up to 100m underwater (ideal for those who regularly deep-sea dive).
As to be expected, the packaging for the watch is suitably based around stylish design and quality, featuring a solid black box with minimal branding in keeping with the high quality of the timepiece within.
In summary, the watch is a high-quality timepiece albeit available at an affordable price point compared to other comparable products on the market today. The watch combines a fantastic design, excellent assembly and quality, making an ideal gift for yourself or a friend or loved one. What are your thoughts about the Pompeak Automatic Watch?
