4 Holiday Activities And How To Dress For Each One Of Them
As we head into spring, it can be a fantastic opportunity to take off on a little adventure – whether you’ve already planned a trip, you’re doing it right now, or it’s going to be something spontaneous, you need to get your wardrobe choices ready to go! In my latest article, I will offer a number of suggestions for outfits suitable for a variety of holiday activities. Carry on reading for more.
Not everyone’s vacation activities are the same (you may be a fan of all-action adventures, or prefer something more relaxing), so I have selected clothing options that can easily be adapted to your individual holiday needs. In this guide, I aim to help speed up the packing process, suggest ideas on what to do and how to dress, and, more importantly, let you focus on your trip! So without further ado, let’s jump right in and coordinate your fashionable aesthetic for your much-needed break.
Outdoor Adventure
If you are planning an outdoor adventure or hike, it is vital that you prioritise comfort and safety, but that doesn’t mean you need to let your style slip!
Start with a moisture-wicking T-shirt or long-sleeve base layer (for breathability), paired with durable cargo pants or outdoor trousers. On top of the base layer, throw on a merino wool sweater (which provides comfort and structure to your ensemble) and a wind-resistant jacket. Next up, slip on a pair of sturdy, waterproof boots for extra support on uneven terrain.
Remember to include accessories such as sunglasses and a cap (to protect against the elements), and a heavy-duty watch that can withstand knocks and bumps when you are on a nature trail. This type of outfit is easy to move in, while also giving off that all-important rugged, outdoorsy vibe. Keep your colours within the same neutral palette to create a cohesive appearance.
Sightseeing
No matter your holiday destination, it’s only natural to participate in some form of sightseeing! This activity requires something cool, comfy and fashionably on-point (especially when wandering around a new city).
Opt for a classic pair of straight-leg jeans or chinos, paired with a loose, flowing shirt (linen is a great choice) or a fitted casual polo. Layer the look with a denim jacket or a lightweight bomber, which adds an element of finesse without looking too formal, or causing you to overheat (especially if you are in warmer climes).
Always pack comfortable sneakers for walking, so choose something you have tested beforehand (the last thing you want is your footwear to cause rubbing, pain, and blisters). Sports style trainers are ideal, as they typically include cushioning and soft lining – but choose a design that is modern, understated, and sleek.
Finally, add a messenger bag, satchel, or backpack to keep all of your daily necessities safe and sound – you are now ready to explore and enjoy the fantastic architecture and beach views in a fashionista-approved getup.
Casual Night Out
Your holiday plans will most likely include a casual dinner or even a night out at one of the top local spots, so you will need an outfit that is a little more put-together.
Grab a classic button-up or a simple sweater (depending on the weather) that offers a slim-fit appearance. Add a pair of tailored trousers, chinos, or dark denim for a sharp look without being too formal. Complement your ensemble with a pair of minimalistic sneakers (in white, grey, black, or brown), or a pair of casual boots (Chelsea Boots are always an excellent go-to).
Don’t forget the importance of your outerwear choice – consider a leather jacket for that grungy and tough energy, or keep it classy with a smart blazer. To finish, add suitable accessories such as a smart watch, rings, bracelets, and a necklace.
After following the tips in my latest travel guide, you will be fully prepared for any activity while away, whether it is an outdoor quest, a trek through the cobbled streets of a new city, or an evening meal to relax and unwind.
