An Interview With Massa Boutique

An Interview With Massa Boutique

There is a seemingly never-ending amount of online stores all vying for our attention and hard earned cash, one such brand which is determined to rise above the competition is the Italian based Massa Boutique store, proudly stocking both well-established brands and less known upcoming designers.

I have been fortunate in securing an interview with the founder and CEO – Roberto Massa. Read on for the questions and answers!

1. Could you tell me more about your store, Massa Boutique?

Massaboutique.com is the official website of Massa Group, founded in 2009. Additionally, we have five physical Massa stores in the southern region of Italy – Puglia. The town of Martina Franca is where my father started his first artisanal workshop more than fifty years ago.

The Massa brand strives to offer our customers a perfect luxury shopping experience, satisfying all of their stylish needs. We are proud to be the authorised dealer of all of the top brands featured within our online catalogue and in our five stores (catering for men, women, children and street and urban fashion). We made the decision to stay in Martina Franca because we deeply believe in the value of our region, the area of Valle d’Itria within the town is a special place in which visitors can enjoy the perfect lifestyle experience with shopping, art, culture and nature.

2. What inspired you to create your own store?

The story of Massa Boutique is the story of my family. My father, Francesco was a tailor for gentlemen, and he shared his passion with us, including the necessity of the finer details.

He introduced “pret a porter” fashion into our stores and was a pioneer of his time, the same way we presented our online store to the world in 2009. I do not come from a tailoring background, but I am a modern pioneer. I studied in France at university, reading many books and studies regarding marketing and sales. I began by translating the same “mood” of our physical boutiques into our online website. I decided against the typical e-shop which is common across the world, instead focusing on crafting a virtual world in which customers could find the same customised service found in our stores (additionally, I was one of the very first to start an online shop in Puglia). Many of our brands can be found at other stores, but you come back to Massa for our service and attention we place upon our customers.

3. What is your favourite designer brand you stock?

Oh, I could choose many different brands! Trying to choose one is very difficult. I personally like Etro Shirts, PT01 Pants and Tod’s Gommino Shoes. I also like Dsquared Jeans and a new brand called Eleventy which is very classic and refined. There are some tailoring brands which are made in Puglia which I love, Tagliatore, Berwich and Hevò (who I regard as close friends).

4. You stock some of the most exciting brands in the world, is there an upcoming designer we should keep an eye on?

As I previously mentioned, Eleventy is a new upcoming brand which is gaining popularity around the world, their collections are created in Italy using precious fabrics and mostly crafted by hand. Additionally, I love Berwich pants and Hevo coats for men, all very refined.

5. What is the coolest item you ever sold from your store?

Any style and model of sneakers! The most recent trends have shown they can be paired with any outfit, from gym wear to tuxedoes! I also favour slim, handmade tailored jackets, some of our bestsellers!

6. What do you believe will be the biggest seller next season?

If you are referring to a retailer, I hope that will be me and my stores! If you mean which brands, then Burberry and Hogan are always winners for us. Other brands which are made in Italy also sell very well!

7. Now for some fun questions, do you prefer smart or casual?

I’m a big fan of casual, daily style, perfect all-day-long.

8. What is your favourite pair of shoes?

My number one shoe choice is the Gommino flat shoes by Tod’s in any colour!

Thank you, Roberto, for taking the time out to answer my questions!
