Ama Divers Watch From Albany Watches Launch

Ama Divers Watch From Albany Watches Launch

For my latest blog post, I happy to announce the launch of a brand new diver’s watch from Albany Watches. Read on to find out more!

The Ama Diver is inspired by classic watches from the 1960s when style was timeless in nature, with many clothing pieces and indeed accessories from that era just as iconic in 2020. The brand has taken a novel step by creating watches influenced by lesser-known adventurers based around a 2000-year-old tradition which celebrates the Ama – the spirit of pearl divers of Japan.

Additionally, Albany Watches ensure a high-quality thanks to overseeing everything from the design to the craftsmanship when it comes to manufacturing. They are also strong advocates of sustainability.

Case & Crown

The Ama Diver has been designed based around the time of vintage sea exploration, featuring a brushed stainless steel 316L case which can reach depths up to 300m. The crown on the watch features the Albany cormorant, which is a symbol of nobility and bounty.

Comfortable 40mm case with drilled lugs for easy strap changes
• 48mm lug to lug with a 20mm strap size
• 12.8mm in height (Including the domed sapphire crystal)
• A 7mm fully lumed (Swiss Super-LumiNova® BWG9) ergonomic screw-down crown that’s easy to grip

Hands & Lume

The inspiration of the Ama diver’s watch continues throughout the crafting of the watch hands featuring a knife-like hour and a spear-shaped minute hand, concluding with the second hands as harpoons. The hands feature a mix and combination of black and teal, allowing the wearer to read the time easily no matter the conditions. Additionally, Swiss Super-LumiNova® BWG9 has been applied to each of the three hands.

Bezel & Crystal

The watch boasts an anti-reflective domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, ensuring you can view the watch face at all times without any glare. The bezel too, is manufactured using the same scratch-resistant properties upon its 41.5mm size. The Diver features a 120-click unidirectional bezel, allowing for easy grip and extreme precision and no amount of back play.

Miyota Caliber 9039

It is only natural that a watch based upon the divers of Japanese includes a technically robust Japanese movement. The Ama diver uses the world-renowned Miyota 9039 which is the no-date version of the top-rated 9015. Its automatic movement is consistently accurate, with its 28800 bhp, keeping you on time for your daily adventures for years to come.

Caseback

The reverse of the Ama Diver proudly features an engraving which is inspired by the 1950’s photography from Iwase Yoshiyuki, who captured imagery of the local Ama divers in his village. Albany has included this type of design to recognise the impact of these lesser-known deep-sea explorers as this tradition begins to fade due to the modern world.

Packaging

The Ama Diver reaches your door within a Japanese inspired bamboo box, featuring the embossed Albany logo. This style of box is typically unheard of and bolsters the premium quality of the watch itself.
Included inside the box is a double-waxed canvas watch roll with microsuede lining. The roll consists of enough space for multiple watches or accessories, even allowing room for a watch tool.

Sustainability

Albany Watches has embraced sustainability for the basis of their watches, aiming to set an example to their contemporaries in the watch industry by establishing an ethical example in their production of premium watches.
Throughout the entire manufacturing process, the brand strives to protect the ethical treatment of humans and animals alike. Each of their products includes regenerated and biodegradable materials for durability and an extended lifespan. The brand is continually working with its partners in construction to reduce waste and emissions while also improving consumption.
