Regular readers will have likely discovered a variety of different Hockerty pieces on my style blog, from a customised pair of sneakers (featuring my brand name) to a tailored peacoat in olive green. I have been a long-time fan of the brand, thanks to its eye-catching designs and top-tier quality. In this article, I explore their range of formalwear pieces, including a made-to-measure linen blazer, button-up shirt, and matching tie and pocket square.
Customisation
Although you can order pre-made pieces from Hockerty, fashion-lovers will want to head to their ‘custom clothing’ section to design their own.
Almost everything is customisable, starting with choosing your favourite fabric type and colour (currently 180 variations available). Next is the style, where you can choose the cut (such as single-breasted, double, or even Mao), lapel type and width, pocket design, and vent type.
Finally, we have the ‘accents’ section, which includes the final details of your blazer. Lining choice (default to match your fabric, a custom colour, or unlined for a unique vibe), buttons, thread colour, built-in pocket square (or without), elbow patches, and your initials to make it truly personalised to you.
Once you have made your selections, the next step is to create your body profile by entering your individual measurements for the perfect fit. The online ordering system requests your weight, height, and age as a starting point.
After these have been evaluated, your estimated measurements will be presented to you – fortunately, these are not set in stone. Click each section to watch a short video showing the best way to measure each area of your body (such as sleeve length, shoulder width, chest, hips, and more). The requested measurements are incredibly thorough, replicating a ‘real-life’ tailor to give you an exact idea of your body type and shape.
Furthermore, there is a brand new Virtual Try-On feature feature which allows you to upload a photo of yourself, and after a quick button click you will be able to visualise your custom clothing on your body (to get a much better idea of if the style, colour, and cut suits you before you make a purchase). Additionally, it will superimpose your images in different locations and events (from an office environment to an evening dinner).
Once that’s done, all you need to do is place your order and wait for it to arrive!
Style & Design
Taking advantage of Hockerty’s customisation process, I opted for a single-breasted, two-button blazer, with matching brown lining. I kept it classic so it will be a regular rotational wardrobe piece in my collection (rather than something that is currently trending but will drop out of style).
The brown linen fabric is absolutely gorgeous, even with the typical creases that appear with this type of material. I topped the look off with a chocolate brown shirt (also tailored to my size), a light brown/dotted tie, and a coffee brown pocket square (which wrapped up the ensemble nicely!).
Wearability
Thanks to the blazer’s timeless construction and details, it can be worn almost anywhere that demands a formal or smart-casual aesthetic. For instance, you could keep it basic and pair it with a slim-knit or roll-neck jumper, jeans, and Chelsea boots, or go high-fashion with a button-up and tie, paired with slim-fit trousers and brogues (or even loafers).
Sizing & Fit
My Hockerty blazer was personally tailored to my body shape and measurements, so expectations were high for the finished product. As soon as I slipped the jacket on, I was instantly amazed by the fit – it blows an off-the-peg number out of the water with ease! It would be hard to go back to a high-street purchase after you’ve enjoyed the massive benefits of a made-to-measure investment.
Value For Money
First things first, the collection from Hockerty isn’t ‘budget’, but it’s not ‘designer’ prices either. In my opinion, the cost is just right. You will receive a product (whether it’s a blazer, shirt, or beyond) that is perfectly tailored to your body, crafted from premium materials, with a range of colours and styles that will ensure you will be able to find something that matches your unique style (no matter if you prefer classic designs to something a little more outlandish!).
