Way back in 1946, Paul W. Klipsch launched his brand (based in Hope, Arkansas) to bring the musical experience of live concerts straight into homes with his Klipschorn speaker. This mindset is still in full force today, offering a multitude of audio equipment, including speaker systems for your home computer (or your favourite video game console). In this article, I will focus my attention on the Klipsch ProMedia Lumina computer speakers with LED lighting.

Design & Style

The ProMedia Lumina kit comprises two satellite speakers (left and right) and a compact subwoofer, designed for the modern tech enthusiast (with a keen eye for style). The entire kit has been constructed from black and grey (the main body of both features a black wood finish). There is only a small touch of branding, which has been attractively placed – one logo on the left-hand speaker, and another sitting on top of the sub. One special feature is the built-in LED lighting fixed to the rear of both satellites, which, when activated, can cycle (or stay static) through a variety of vibrant colours (or even a rainbow!).

Sound Quality

The calibre of sound that blasts from the speakers and sub is nothing short of breathtaking – whether your screen is loaded with bullets and explosions or a soft, beautiful scene with an overlay of haunting instrumental music, then the ProMedia will deliver a delight to the ears that even a rigid audiophile will appreciate. Additionally, if you are a big multiplayer gamer (such as in a hectic FPS), the kit will provide significant advantages, allowing you to hear even the slightest footsteps and movements as enemies approach so that you can be quick on the draw!

Usage

The ProMedia Lumina package has been marketed primarily as computer speakers, and most buyers will undoubtedly use them for gaming purposes (although nothing is stopping you from using them to watch movies or listen to music via your PC). Kilpsch has included a number of different methods for connecting – USB-C, 3.5mm AUX, and Bluetooth (so no matter your kit, you will be able to enjoy the booming sound quality on offer quickly).

However, you can also take advantage of the impressive audio and use it with your gaming systems (whether you enjoy PlayStation, Nintendo, or Xbox). I am firmly in the ‘green’ camp and connected the speakers to my Xbox Series S (with a portable screen attachment) using an additional Bluetooth adapter.

Once you are up and running, you will instantly be able to admire the gorgeous array of colours shooting out of the back of both satellite speakers via the built-in LED lights, which can pulse through different shades, or even react to the music or SFX.

Additionally, Klipsch has created an app (available on your smartphone) that connects to the speaker setup (without the usual issues associated with these programs). Once synced, you can take control of different aspects of the audio – volume, inputs, equaliser, lighting and more.

Packaging

The box that arrived was nothing short of a beast! Massive (and fairly heavy) to house the contents safely and securely. Once opened, everything was neatly tucked beneath sturdy card and polystyrene to avoid any movement during transport. That said, it was a fairly simple affair to remove each individual part, cable, and the manual.

Value For Money

The retail price of the Lumina speaker set sits at around £369 (at time of publication), but if you are on the hunt for an audio kit that will show off the music and sound effects in the latest triple-A gaming behemoth, then (as a gamer) you will understand it is a cost worth spending!

Summary

Elevate your movie, gaming, or musical experience with the Klipsch ProMedia Lumina speaker system, which boasts stylish good looks, impressive sound quality, great connectivity and functionality (special mention goes to the top-tier control app), all wrapped up in an excellent package!
