The Search For Smart, Slim Fit Clothes For Men

The Search For Smart, Slim Fit Clothes For Men

My never ending mission to acquire clothes for smaller men continues, my hunt has currently turned to acquiring smarter apparel. In this case, my priority goal was to find a high quality blazer with a a great fit. I found that it is even more of a minefield trying to find formal wear for us slimmer guys. Having very little success with homegrown brands, my focus turned to Italy.

One of my first points of call was the brand Canali, I’ve known of them for a long time, so this gave me the ideal chance to look more closely. My initial attraction was in part due to their huge selection of sizes amongst their blazer collection, sizes go down to a super small 44! (so 34 in UK sizes) ensuring a nice snug fit for those of us who boast a more modest frame.

There is a wide variety of different colours available, from soft summer pastel blue or green shades or the more classic pale greys and off whites. Of course, they have a readily available selection of darker navy blues or blacks for those more formal occasions. Since the brand was formed over 80 years ago, its heritage has been synonymous with quality, as such you are guaranteed an excellent composition of materials, be it linen, wool or silk! Take a look at my chosen favourite pieces below.

So, we have the blazer in the bag! Next we need leg wear. Unfortunately, it’s quite tough to find super skinny trousers for men with slimmer legs. So, I have chosen instead to select a dark pair of skinny jeans. As regular readers will know, I often opt for a women’s pair to get that super skinny fit I desire, as well as being very stretchy and comfortable – something very few men’s skinny jeans have yet to achieve!

My first stop was J Brand, the American denim brand are responsible for some fantastic dark and black washes which are perfect for those smart occasions. Regular readers will remember me raving about them in a previous outfit post. Check out their some of their selection below (I have chosen the cuts most suitable to men, with a higher rise and more masculine back pockets).

For footwear, I again decided to look back at the Italian brand Canali. They fabricate a beautiful selection of classic style loafers suitable for those sunny days where you need to dress the part. My personal favourites are the driving shoes or penny loafers, which are more in tune with my style and preference to go sockless! But if you prefer the more classic oxford brogue or perhaps a monk style, Canali have you covered in that department too! My top choices are featured below.

With this new found selection of fashionable items, I have the pieces needed for a slim fitting smarter wear outfit! Please let me know on my mens fashion blog, what you think in the comments below.

I’d be interested in seeing what this looks like on you. I’ve always worn things slightly tapered and sometimes slim, but can’t imagine what some of these pieces would look like on a guy, very interested to find out.

You could also just look at getting something slightly more custom, maybe Indochino? They are reasonably priced and the quality is decent. I have unusual proportions and so I often find myself needing to either go custom or get pieces heavily tailored.

    Best.

      Hi Jack,

Thanks for your comment! I already have outfit posts in which I wear the J Brand Maria skinny jeans, the other items are pieces I plan on wearing in the future!

I will take a look at Indochino!
