7 Evening Rituals To Help Men Unwind After A Long Day

The modern world we live in keeps us busy and often highly stressed, so it is essential to allow yourself time to unwind at the end of the day. In my latest lifestyle blog post, I suggest a few different ways to de-stress before sleep – carry on reading to find out more.

You will undoubtedly feel close to breaking point when your life is constantly busy thanks to work, friends, family and keeping up with bills. It is crucial to put aside some ‘you’ time at the end of each day (so you can be ready to go again the next morning) to combat stress. A regular bedtime ritual can aid in a number of ways, including relaxation and a deep, unbroken sleep. According to some studies, even reading a book during your downtime can also increase your memory, allowing your mind to focus on the content of the book (whether it is fictional or fact) rather than any current problems in life.

The following seven evening rituals will help you focus and prepare for the next day.

Indulge In A Skincare Routine

Giving your body some much-needed attention is a fantastic way to complete the day – removing any unwanted contaminants from your skin obtained throughout the day. Start the process with a cleanser, toner, refreshing hydrating serum and finally, amaranth body lotion to enjoy an intense and invigorating moisturising effect.

Drinking Tea

Making yourself a nice cuppa is a great way to spend an evening, especially combined with watching one of your favourite programmes (another viewing of Breaking Bad would be my shout!). Even paying attention to the fine details of the tea-making process can have a stimulating effect – the hissing sound of the seam, the sizzling noises of the water boiling, finalising with that very first sip.

Taking A Hot Shower

A hot shower can be extremely relaxing in the evenings, allowing you to wash away the day’s problems. Water immersion is undeniably soothing, ensuring you can disengage from the world and the technology that keeps us all connected.

Spend Time With A Loved One

When you arrive home after a hard day at the office, sharing your daily activities with a loved one (or even a close friend) is a great way to unwind, think, trade stories and refresh your mind. Discussing your life and events brings you together, building your relationship further. Nurture and care bring us inner peace, lowering blood pressure and anxiety. Adding a pet to your home life can help with this, too; they are (almost) always happy to see you! Complete the evening by slipping into bed with your partner, relaxing in each other’s arms before drifting off to sleep.

Stretching Exercises

If you find it difficult to sleep, try having a good stretch exercise routine to relax your mind and muscles after a hard day (you can even stretch while in bed). Stretching is a fantastic way to relieve tension, which can be boosted further when paired with meditation.

A Long Walk

Taking a long stroll in the evening can help you invite calm into your mind, especially if the area features beautiful flora and fauna. Try to walk at a casual pace (not speed walking), as it will allow your thoughts to disperse and your body to ease.

Clean Your Living Space

Many will live by the idea that cleaning is a great way to remove stress from your thoughts, plus a tidy environment equates to an organised mind. Put aside a small amount of time each evening so you can spend it tidying up quickly, so put your phone aside, clean the desks and worktops, grab any washing, and put it in the laundry basket.

With these top 7 self-care tips at hand to help you relax each day, you will be well prepared to regain control of your mental well-being, allowing you to have a more stress-free life. Even during stressful times, you can focus on the fact that you have that special time each night for just yourself so you can recharge.
