Your Smile Is The Best Accessory In Your Wardrobe

Your Smile Is The Best Accessory In Your Wardrobe

When guys think about personal style, clothing, footwear, and jewellery spring to mind; however, one of the best accessories in your fashion toolkit is your smile. A genuine smile can easily move mountains – elevating not only your appearance, but boosting your overall self-confidence. Fads come and go, but a beautiful smile will always be “on trend”. As such, it is essential to look after your teeth with care and establish a good oral routine that will make a real difference. Let’s find out more in my latest lifestyle article.

Don’t Overlook The Space Between Your Teeth

Even if you’re the most diligent person in the world when it comes to brushing your teeth, it’s easy to miss areas where food particles build up. These overlooked places are often missed when using a standard toothbrush. That is where interdental cleaning comes into play. Dental floss is a game changer, letting you target hidden areas and effectively remove stubborn food and debris.

However, traditional floss can be unappealing, and many people dismiss it out of hand (it can be awkward to use and even uncomfortable). In these cases, expanding dental floss is worth exploring – it arrives compressed (and very thin, so much easier to slide between your teeth), but once it comes into contact with saliva and moisture, it adapts to the shape of your teeth, becomes thicker and catches otherwise difficult-to-remove dirt and even plaque.

Alternatively, you can invest in an electric flosser, which is similar in design to an electric toothbrush. You typically fill the device with warm water, aim the nozzle around your teeth, and switch it on; a blast of water (in pulse intervals) shoots through the gaps in your teeth and dislodges stubborn debris.

When you regularly clean between your teeth, you help keep your gums healthier and reduce plaque buildup.

The Confidence Benefits Of A Great Smile

Your appearance goes a long way towards your confidence level. When you are happy with your outfit, your hair is on point, and of course your smile, you will inevitably stand a little straighter, feel less conscious (even in the presence of new people), and have stronger eye contact (all key areas in making you feel good in daily encounters).

Many people seem to be naturally smiling, while others are more reserved (often because they are not happy with their teeth). Stains, uneven teeth, gaps, or dental issues can all drastically affect how they act in social situations.

However, there is no such thing as a “perfect” smile – your teeth don’t have to be absolutely identical or unnaturally white to be considered “attractive”. Everyone is different, and that includes the individuality of teeth layout and position.

Rather than chasing some unrealistic images on social media (or on your favourite movie star or pop icon), focus on your own appearance and keep your teeth and gums in good health. This factor will go a long way towards making you feel comfortable in your own skin, and happy to flash those pearly whites out in public.

Why Regular Dental Care Is Essential

Just like your favourite pair of tailored trousers (that sit just right) or your workhouse denim that only gets better with age, they need regular TLC, just like your mouth and teeth. Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste is one of the most important things you can do to keep your teeth healthy. It not only removes excess food and bacteria, but also helps eliminate plaque (the sticky film of bacteria that builds up over the course of the day). If not removed on a regular basis, it can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.

Technique is just as important; brushing too vigorously can irritate the gums and wear down the enamel. Instead, use gentle movements and replace your toothbrush regularly (especially if the bristles become stiff and misshapen).

It is highly recommended to invest in an electric toothbrush, as it is easier to use and some models will alert you (with a simple beep) that you have brushed for the recommended 2 minutes. If you splash out on a premium device, you can even connect it to your smartphone via an app, which can tell you which areas need extra work (such as harder-to-reach areas like the back surfaces of your teeth).

Food And Drinks Can Make An Impact

Even something as simple as eating and drinking can have a massive impact on how your teeth look. Sweet treats and beverages that are high in sugar can increase the risk of tooth decay, especially if you frequently consume them throughout the day. Bacteria in dental plaque use sugars to produce acids, which can destroy enamel.

In summary, a wonderful, and above all, healthy smile is something that will never be “outdated”, so focusing on a strong oral maintenance routine with regular brushing, flossing, and being mindful of what you eat can ensure your beaming smile will always look good.
